abstract:This research aimed to examine the historical catch statistics and length data of the albacore tuna caught by Taiwanese tuna longliners operated in the South Pacific Ocean. We try to separate non-albacore efforts and trial set efforts from the database, and examine spatial and temporal distribution patterns of the length data, and filter out a more representative time series of southern albacore. In addition, for fulfill the needs for international fishery management of the species, an establishment and standarization of area or age-specific CPUE time series by considerations of albacore distribution patterns will be conducted, and trends and fluctuations of these series will also be discussed.
