Title: Effect of Aloe vera on Larvicidal, Pupicidal and Bacterial Larvicides of Malarial Vector, Anopheles Stephensi Liston

Abstract: Abstract: Laboratory investigations have been made on the effect of Aloe vera leaf extract (AVSE) and Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) on the larivicidal and pupicidal and growth inhibitory effect against malarial vector, Anopheles stephensi. There was considerable mortality was evident after the Bti and plant extract treatment and significant mortality was noted after the combined treatment for 24h. The lethal concentrations (LC 50 and LC 90) were calculated by using Finney's method. The LC 50 and LC 90 values I to IV larval instars were represented as follows: LC 50 value of I instar was 8.06%, II instar was 9.06%, III instar was 9.96% and IV instar was 10.98% and pupae was 6.62%, respectively. The LC 90 value of I instar was 19.49%, II instar was 20.26%, III instar was 21.40%, IV instar was 22.39% and pupae was 18.16%, respectively. Plants extract treated larvae and pupae showed growth regulatory effect, 75% inhibition was noted at 30 ppm of Bti, whereas after the treatment of 30 ppm AVSE the inhibition was 70%, respectively. Emergence inhibition (EI 50 and EI 90) values for Bti treatment was 14.36% and 42.04%, respectively. For AVSE, EI 50 and EI 90 values were 17.20% and 47.01%, respectively. In the present study Aloe vera extracts showed mosquitocidal activity against malarial vector, Anopheles stephensi.
