Abstract: Abstract:In the illumination zone of fishing lamps,the swordtip squid(Loligo edulis)expressedphototaxic behavior,by which the school density oscillated at the cyclic periods of 4.28~7.50 min in the moonless nights and 5.70~10.00 min in the moonlights.The cyclic periodsdecreased with the increase in the mantle length.When there were schools of the preymackerel(Scomber japonicus)and the predator hairtail(Trichiurus lepturus),the squidschool density showed additional cyclical periods of 2.30~3.67 min in response to theformer and 15 min to the latter.Apparently,the behavioral response of squid to the threeconcurred stimuli(light,prey and predator)were the one stimulus-one responsephenomenon and their interactions were additive in nature.
