Abstract: Abstract:The fresh water field crab, Paratelphusa hydrodromous is an important human food source in parts of South India and the crab is constantly exposed to heavy metal, which are used extensively to toxic elements in aquatic systems. Evaluation of the toxic effect of cadmium on the experimental crab for the LC₅₀ value was carried out. Effect of cadmium on the antioxidant enzymes in the hepatopancreas was observed. Quantitative study of antioxidant enzymes of Super oxide dismutase, Catalyze and Lipid peroxidation were undertaken.
