Abstract: Abstract:Seaweeds are the extraordinary sustainable resources in the marine ecosystem which have been used as a source of food, feed, medicine and bio pesticides. The present study was carried out to establish the properties of major seaweeds (Dictyota dichotoma, Padina pavonica, Valoniopsis pachynema) extract on larvicidal, pupicidal and adulticidal activity against the coastal malarial vector, Anopheles sundaicus. The sea weeds were collected from the area around southeast coast of India. Seaweeds were washed with fresh water and shade-dried at room temperature. An electrical blender powdered the dried materials (seaweeds). The powder (800 g) of the leaf was extracted with 2.5 of organic solvents of methanol for 8 h using a soxhlet apparatus and then filtered. The crude seaweed extracts were evaporated to dryness in a rotary vacuum evaporator. The sea weed extracts are observed larvicidal, pupicidal and adulticidal effects after 24 h of exposure; however, the highest larval and pupal mortality wasfound in the methanol extract of D. dichotoma followed by V. pachynema P. pavonica respectively. V. Pachynema showed good aulticidal activity against coastal malarial vector, An. sundaicus. No mortality was observed in the control. The results of the sea weeds, D. dichotoma, P. pavonica, V. Pachynema is promising as good larvicidal and pupicidal, adulticidal properties of against coastal malarial vector, An. sundaicus. This is a new ecofriendly approach for the control ofAn. sundaicusmosquito as target species of vector control programs.
