|Abstract: ||Abstract:In this paper, the innovative design and implementation of a motorized rotary stage are presented. The presented rotary stage is characterized by a rotary carriage that is constrained by a specially designed circular guide. The circular guide consists of a hardened circular rail in contact with eight rollers that are attached to the rotary carriage. The rollers can be preloaded in order to eliminate clearance between each roller and the hardened circular rail, so that the rotary carriage can move smoothly. Then, a driving unit, consisting of a servo motor coupled with a gear reducer, is fixed to the rotary carriage, and a segmented spur gear is fixed to the hardened circular rail. A spur pinion meshing with the segmented spur gear is driven by the servo motor. Such a design thus forms a motorized rotary stage that can be driven by a servo motor for producing a rotary swinging motion with closed-loop positioning control. A rotary stage prototype of the presented design was constructed. Experiments meant to test the feasibility of the presented design were conducted. It showed that the constructed rotary stage prototype could achieve a rotary swinging motion with acceptable precision.|
