Abstract: Abstract: The standard bioassay for tetrodotoxin (TTX) was established in Japan using a ddY mouse strain. But ICR mouse strain is usually used for TTX bioassay in Taiwan. Attempts were then made for developing the standard bioassay for TTX using an ICR strain male mouse. The 50% lethal dose (LD50) of TTX for ICR mouse strain is 0.178 .mu.g, which is less than that of ddY strain one (0.220 .mu.g). The relationship between TTX dose and median death time in ICR strain coincides well with that of the ddY strain. But the relationship between correction factor of TTX dose and mouse body weight in ICR strain is different from that of the ddY strain.
