Title: 海洋鑽探研究總計畫

Abstract: 摘要;自民國九十年會計年度起,我國的海洋鑽探研究計畫步入第二個三年計畫階段(2001-2003),此一階段的形式與任務均與伊使階段(1997-2000)大異其趣。新階段的海洋鑽探研究計畫有三大目標:(1)強化我國參加ODP的表現,進行所參加各航次之航後研究增加國際能見度;(2)為參與二十一世紀新型海洋鑽探研究預作準備,得以有效利用日本主導之OD21在西太平洋邊緣海開鑽之優勢;(3)進行台灣週邊海域研究,期能規劃出更成熟有力的鑽探企劃書,吸引鑽探船前來鑽探。為達成上述目標,本年度13個子計畫組成了三個研究群:航後研究群、航次準備研究群與主題研究群。航後研究主要集中於ODP184航次從南海取回的岩心樣本,探討新三紀海洋及古氣候。伴隨的尚有ODP181及ODP187西南太平洋的航後研究。因為這些地區都是以往未曾鑽探的處女地,這些航後研究已揭露前所未知的重要海洋地質資訊。航次規劃研究探索兩個區域,一是台灣西南海域延伸至南海東北部一帶,另一是台灣東北海域迄南沖繩海槽一帶。研究手段以地球物理測勘為主,地化研究及實地取岩心為輔,期望能完善地球物理的背景資料,加強本地區之地質構想,建立理論模型,供作改寫450號及540號鑽探企劃書的張本。本年度完成:(1)台灣東北海域-南沖繩海槽企劃書之完成與呈送,並獲得通過,於2001年5月初在南沖繩海槽鑽取ODP1202戰為4口岩心,最深鑽入海床下410公尺。(2)台灣附近ODP鑽探企劃研究的成果發表學術專刊TAO2001年5月號:海洋鑽探計畫-台灣周圍鑽探之航前研究特刊。(3)果敢號2001年5月停靠基隆港期間開放參觀,舉辦「西太平洋海洋鑽探之現況與展望」國際研討會及「太平洋周邊海洋鑽探研究團會員國會議」。(4)「地球科學園地」連續出版兩期「國際海洋鑽探」特刊(2001年3月號、6月號)。
abstract:ROC has joined the international Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) since January of 1997 under the name of Chinese (Taipei). Beginning from the fiscal year 2001, the Ocean Drilling Research Program (ODRP) of ROC steps into the second phase, in which the missions have differed considerably from the first phase. The major goals of the second phase (FY 2001-2003) are three folds: (1) Strengthening our scientists performance and increasing their visibility in the international cooperation of various ODP-related activities. (2) Preparing our scientists to paticipate in the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) to be launched in 2003. (3) Preparing and submission of drilling proposals to test various tectonic and paleoceanographic hypotheses concerning the geologic evolution of the western Pacific, particularly in the vicinity of Taiwan. The post-cruise studies focus mainly on the Neogene paleoceanography and paleoclimatology of the South China Sea by examining materials of ODP Leg 184. Accompanied are studies of samples of ODP 181 and ODP 187 from the southwest Pacific. These studies have resulted in significant findings unlocked from the sediments and oceanic crust of these areas where no previous drilling existed. The drilling planning studies target on two areas: the Southernmost Part of Okinawa Trough (SPOT) to the northeast of Taiwan, and (2) the offshore areas of southwestern Taiwan with an extension to the northeastern South China Sea. The approaches include geophysical survey, geochemical study and preliminary appraisal of drilling sites by piston coring. The results will enrich basic geophysical data and enhance our geologic understanding of these two areas. As a result, the Okinawa Trough Drilling Proposal has been highly ranked and the site was drilled during May, 2001. Four holes were drilled at ODP Site 1202 in the southern Okinawa Trough. The drilling vessel, JOIDES Resolution visited Keelung in the early May. Activities related to the port-call were successfully conducted, including an public open-house of the vessel, press conference, and two international meetings. Although we have reduced our contribution to the international Ocean Drilling Program by 50% in paying 1/12 membership fee (equaling roughly to 1/200 of the total ODP budget), our continuing enthusiastic participation in the various ODP activities has become more efficient and fruitful.
