Title: Development of an Automatic Inspection System for Circular Saw Plate

Abstract: abstract:Saw Blades can be applied to cut various types of plates, blocks and rods. Locking type precision saw blades consist of a disk-type tool (circular saw plate) holder on which insertable saw inserts are positioned radially outwardly. The inspection of saw blades is important in order to ensure their manufacturing quality and sawing performance. In practice, a plurality of cutting tool inserts must be assembled to a circular saw plate to form a functional locking type saw blades. However, the circular saw plate may contain defects such as thickness, geometric shapes and axial run-out of a circular saw plate. This study has successfully developed an inspection system to examine the critical geometry of locking type precision saw blades. In order to examine the axial run-out of a circular saw plate, a digital indicator is equipped to measure the heights of the blade continuously as the holder rotates around its axis. A non-contact optical inspection module is used to measure the geometric shapes of circular saw plate. The hardware of the inspection system includes spindle module, driving module, machine vision module and the digital indicator. Experiments meant to inspect locking type saw blade samples were also conducted in order to test the feasibility of the developed automatic inspection system. Based on the measuring data obtained from individual inspectors, the inspection system developed by this work shows a good repeatability and reproducibility.
