摘要: abstract:Kanamori and Uyeda (1979) have divided the world subduction zone systems into two categories: the Mariana and Chile types. Basically, the Mariana type is a high-angle subduction system which generally does not carry the big earthquake, however, the Chile type is a low-angle subduction which occur many big earthquakes. Feb. 27, 2010, an M=8.8 mega earthquake struck the southern Chile (the No. 5 biggest earthquake which the human ever recorded). The British, American, French and Taiwanese OBS teams quickly response the event by measuring the aftershocks in the tsunami affected offshore areas. Taiwanese OBS have obtained two-month aftershock data. The data contain at least 100,000 after shocks. We are analyzing this huge dataset and wish to get a better understanding of the characteristics of this mega earthquake.
