Abstract: abstract:Parallel magnetic lineations of possible Cretaceous age, striking N 45° W, are associated with the Western Philippine Sea. They are believed to have originated by sea floor spreading. However, the center of spreading is unknown. Their strike suggests that they originated either from a spreading center with spreading occurring in a NE-SW direction, or that spreading was some other direction (possibly E-W) and that the Philippine Sea has since rotated.
