Spatial and temporal characteristics of fishing ground for Taiwanese seine fishery in the northeastern waters off Taiwan

|Abstract: ||為探究台灣東北部海域扒網漁業之海況變動特性，本研究利用2010年1-12月間，實際在台灣東北部海域作業之48艘扒網漁業標本船的漁業活動資料，配合衛星遙測表水溫影像及海底等深線資料，透過地理資訊系統的整合分析，以探究台灣東北部海域扒網漁業作業漁場之漁況時空分布特性。 此外，由漁船航程記錄(VDR)之資料顯示，扒網漁船約於每日13-19點間出港，並以5-8節之航速快速航向漁場中，而在18點左右抵達漁場後停船集魚，同時於18-5點間，進行集魚及漁撈作業，此依期間之船速約在0-3節之間，而凌晨4點以後以船速6-10節返港卸魚及休息。 另由48艘扒網漁業漁船標本戶漁業活動之資料顯示，其作業漁場主要分布於北緯24-27°、東經120-122°，且海底深度約在100-200m之東海陸棚潮境鋒面處，其漁獲魚種則以鯖、鰺及鰹類為主，其中又以鯖類有較高之漁獲率(CR)，平均CR可達17,804 kg/boat-day。 由本研究結果可知，扒網漁業因具有拖網、圍網與燈火漁業等特性，其漁獲效率相當高，為避免其對台灣東北部海域鯖、鰺、鰹類等魚類資源產生過高之漁獲壓力，有必要妥善規劃扒網漁業之漁業管理規範，以使本省扒網漁業能永續利用發展。|
In the present study, we collected data of fishing activities from 48 commercial purse seine vessels operating in the water off northeastern Taiwan during Jan-Dec 2010. These data together with remote sensing-based SST (sea surface temperature) and bathymetric data were further integrated using GIS (geographic information system) to examine spatial and temporal characteristics of purse seine fisheries in the water off northeastern Taiwan. VDR (voyage data recorder) data revealed danish seine vessels initially left the harbors around 1:00-7:00 PM every day and headed for fishing grounds with a speed of 5-8 knots. They arrived in fishing grounds at approximately 6:00 PM and then started to congregate targeted fish species at zero speed. The congregation and catch operations mainly occurred between 6:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Until 4:00 AM vessels began to head for home with a speed of 6-10 knots and all fishing operations were finished after landing their catch in the harbors. Results of the analysis on fishing activities of 48 danish seine vessels further indicated that their fishing grounds, in the rage of 24-27° N and 120-122° E, were mainly located in the vicinity of frontal area with a water depth of 100-200 m within East China Sea continental shelf. The major targeted fish species were mackerels, scads, and bonitos. The catch rate of mackerels was relatively high with an average of 17,804 kg/boat-day. With combined characteristics of trawl, purse seine and torch-lighted fisheries, the fishing efficiency of danish seine fisheries is found to be high in the present study. Therefore, appropriate and reasonable management and regulation of danish seine fisheries will be required to reduce fishing pressure on the resource of mackerels, scads, and bonitos in the water off northeastern Taiwan and make danish seine fisheries sustainable in Taiwan.
