Abstract: Abstract:Artificial materials of periodic dielectrics which exhibit electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) performance have been proposed and applied on a planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) design in this paper. The artificial defected dielectric material has some useful characteristics such as harmonic rejection, band suppression and surface wave suppression. A three-dimensionally periodic dielectric structure with a compact and low profile electromagnetic band gap material is presented. The artificial dielectric material (ADM) enhances radiation performance, bandwidth, radiation gain and e±ciency of the designed antenna.
