摘要: Abstract:In February 2002, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States released unlicensed frequency band of 3.1–10.6 GHz for commercial communication applications [1]. So far, ultra wide band (UWB) technique had become the first candidate of short-range high-speed wireless communication systems. The antenna is an important component, which determines the performance of UWB systems; moreover one of principal subjects in UWB device is to design a compact antenna. Recently, UWB antenna development tends to concentrate on small planar antennas [2–4]. Since the key of miniaturization technique is to decrease the first resonant frequency. Many planar wideband monopole slot antennas have been studied and reported for UWB applications that use a variety of antenna structures [5–8]. However, these planar antennas were equipped with large ground planes,which made placement of antennas with other communication devices somewhat difficult. A novel calabash-slot CPW-fed antenna for UWB applications is proposed. The designed antenna operates over 3.0 to 10.9 GHz for VSWR ≤ 2. The antenna also shows omni-directional radiation patterns and that is
suitable for UWB applications.
