Abstract: abstractAn effective finite element procedure is presented in this work for vibration analysis of beams with immovable ends involving geometric nonlinearity. The simplest interpolation function is applied, which linearly interpolates the displacement field. The problem of shear locking is avoided by using reduced integration on the shear strain energy terms. Both the axial stretching and nonlinear bending curvature due to large vibration amplitude are considered. Effects of shearing deformation and rotary inertia, known as the Timoshenko beam theory, are also accounted for in the present analysis. Analysis results from this work compare favorably with those available in the literature for slender beams. For short beams, correct formulation is given and improvements over a previous study which uses a linearizing function are indicated.
