Abstract: abstract:The study emphasizes the need to integrate videos into the curriculum of teaching English as a foreign language in the context where English native speakers and authentic materials are not sufficient. This study was to investigate comprehension strategies used by English learners who viewed a video by means of the computer. 168 students from the colleges of Management, Engineering and Life Science taking the English course in a public university in Taiwan participated in this study. After viewing three videos on the computer, each participant completed a video comprehension strategy questionnaire. The questionnaire data were analyzed through percentage calculation and z tests. The results were focused on two themes: (a) the mostly and the least used video comprehension strategies by the university participants, and (b) the significant differences in strategy application between the three colleges. At the end of the paper, instructional suggestions with regard to research results were presented.
