Abstract: In order to maintain feasible schedules for container shipping services, container carrier operators are paying increasing attention to the selection of suitable ports for their services. Port selection can be formulated as multiple criteria decision making problems. Four ports selection models are proposed in this dissertation so that decision makers can choose appropriate model that meets the requirement of different scenarios. We incorporate DEA in our first and second models where ports are regarded as DMUs in the context of DEA. Unlike conventional DEA where DMUs are evaluated with different multipliers, in the first proposed model, all ports are evaluated with the same multipliers that are favorable for all ports. In the second model, we integrate DEA with TOPSIS to enhance the discrimination power. Decision makers may have different preference on the criteria for port selection. In the third model, we provide a performance fusion method so that decision makers can select port by only specifying the priority of criteria without detail weights of criteria. The last model is for group decision so that a group of decision makers can reach a decision on choosing a port-of-call under fuzzy environment.
